Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has accused oil companies operating in the state of under-reporting and non-reporting of hydrocarbon production, saying the practice has denied Imo its rightful earnings in royalties and 13% derivation funds.
Uzodimma made the allegation on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, to Government House, Owerri.
According to a statement posted on the governor’s X handle, Uzodimma said Imo is “richly endowed with hydrocarbon resources” and “possesses the highest reservoir of natural gas in Nigeria.”
He called for a comprehensive review of production records and revenue remittances to ensure accuracy and transparency, adding that the state government is ready to work with RMAFC to resolve the discrepancies.
“While I commended the Commission for undertaking this fact-finding mission and data collection exercise, I appealed to RMAFC, as an agency empowered by law to safeguard fiscal equity and accountability, to assist in rescuing Imo State from these anomalies,” Uzodimma said.
The governor’s remarks came as RMAFC conducts data collection to verify oil and gas production figures across states.
