The National Executive Committee, NEC, of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has ratified the outcome of its nationwide primary elections and approved plans to introduce electronic voting in future party congresses.
The NEC meeting, held on Tuesday in Abuja, was attended by the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, according to a statement by party chieftain Seriaka Dickson posted on X.
Dickson said the meeting reviewed reports from across the federation and commended electoral committees, aspirants, and supporters for the conduct of the primaries.
He noted that while there were “challenges and disagreements in some locations,” the NEC reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy and resolved to intensify reconciliation efforts nationwide.
As part of institutional reforms, the NEC directed the strengthening of the party’s digital membership registration and data management systems.
The committee also resolved to expand grassroots mobilisation and strengthen party structures at all levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NEC further reviewed recent developments in the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to pursuing “democratic, legal, and constitutional remedies” to ensure a level playing field.
Obi and Kwankwaso were acknowledged for their “commitment and leadership” during the primaries and presidential affirmation process, Dickson said.
