Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom says the state’s in-house contract estimate system has saved billions of naira, with the funds redirected to critical development projects.
Speaking on Thursday after presiding over the July State Projects Delivery Meeting in Uyo, Eno said the meeting reviewed progress on key projects and reaffirmed government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely delivery.
“These savings have been redirected to critical development projects that will continue to improve the lives of our people,” he said.
The meeting reviewed ongoing work across roads and bridges, aviation, the Ibom International Hospital, ARISE Palm Resort, Ibom International Convention Centre, the Oron Maritime Project, Youth Development Centres, model schools, primary healthcare centres, and power sector reforms.
Eno added that preparations were also reviewed for projects earmarked for presidential commissioning later this year. Updates were received on the Ibom Deep Seaport, Itam Industrial Park, airport projects, AKICORP developments, and other strategic investments.
Reacting to reports of theft of airport perimeter fencing, the governor directed security agencies, local government authorities, village heads, and youth leaders to collaborate in protecting public infrastructure.
“These projects belong to all of us. God bless Akwa Ibom,” he said.
He thanked stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, and Civil Society Organizations for attending the two-day meeting, which will conclude on Friday(today).
