Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State says the increase in federal allocations to the state under President Bola Tinubu’s administration has enabled his government to accelerate infrastructural development and revive key economic assets.
The Governor stated this at the weekend when members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour concluded an inspection of major Federal and State projects in Benue.
Governor Alia commended President Tinubu for creating a fiscal environment that has allowed the state to undertake more capital projects, pay salaries and pensions, and revive moribund industries.
“The increased Federal Allocation has given us more fiscal space to do some of the things that we could not do before. We are using the resources responsibly to revive industries, build roads and provide infrastructure that will directly impact the lives of our people,” he said.
He particularly cited the ongoing rehabilitation of Taraku Mills in Gwer East Local Government Area as part of efforts to restore Benue’s industrial base and convert the state’s agricultural advantage into economic prosperity.
Established in 1989, Taraku Mills was once a major agro-processing facility producing vegetable oil and animal feeds. The state government has commenced rehabilitation works to restore the facility.
According to the Governor, the revival of the mill will provide a ready market for farmers, especially soybean producers, while creating jobs and stimulating economic activity.
Governor Alia stressed the need for prudent management of increased federal resources, saying the funds must be deployed for salaries, infrastructure, security, and the common good.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for Federal Government investments in road infrastructure across Benue and the wider North-Central region.
