Kwara Police Command Commences “Operation Velvet” To Enforce Traffic Laws

The Kwara State Police Command has commenced “Operation Velvet”, a continuous enforcement initiative aimed at ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws and enhancing road safety across the state.

‎The operation, which began on Tuesday, 18th August 2026, is being carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, PSC, MNIPS, and in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.

‎According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, anipr, Operation Velvet will focus on ensuring that all motorists obey traffic regulations and that vehicles on the road possess valid and legally required documents, including proper registration and other relevant papers.

‎“Motorists are therefore advised to ensure that their vehicles and documentation are in order before taking to the roads,” the statement read.

‎The Command said the operation is continuous. Any motorist found violating traffic laws or operating a vehicle without the required legal documentation will face appropriate sanctions in accordance with extant laws and due process.

‎CP Adekimi urged motorists and other road users to cooperate with police personnel, obey traffic regulations, and drive responsibly. He assured members of the public that the Command remains committed to safer roads, protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of peace and public order across Kwara State.
