ZURMI — Notorious bandit leader Kachalla Auta, who has terrorised communities in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has been killed during a clash with security forces.
Security expert Bakatsine disclosed this in a post on his X handle, saying Auta’s fighters were first ambushed on Friday night, with several reportedly killed and their motorcycles recovered.
According to the post, the group resurfaced on Saturday morning along the Boko–Moriki axis, where troops engaged them again in a fierce firefight. Auta was reportedly among those killed in the operation.
Bakatsine described the bandit leader’s death as a major setback for the group and its operations in the area.
He commended the Nigerian security forces for maintaining pressure and confronting armed groups on the ground.
Zurmi LGA has in recent years been one of the flashpoints of banditry in Zamfara, with repeated attacks on villages, kidnappings and rustling.
Security agencies have intensified operations in the axis under ongoing efforts to restore peace in the North/West.
