Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has said that the construction and redevelopment works will soon commence on abandoned public infrastructure in Nnewi as part of efforts to restore the city’s status as the state’s industrial hub.
Soludo stated this on Wednesday during an inspection tour of key development sites in Nnewi, including the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle, post office area, and state high court premises.
The governor said the Nkwo Nnewi Triangle shopping complex, which has remained uncompleted and unused for about 17 years, would be restored to productive use.
“It is unacceptable that public assets intended to drive commerce have been left to rot for nearly two decades. We are here to draw a line in the sand. This facility will no longer be a monument to neglect,” Soludo said.
He added that the administration was mapping underutilised open spaces in the city for conversion into parks, recreational centres, commercial facilities, and housing to support Nnewi’s growing workforce.
According to him, the post office area and high court premises would be integrated into a broader urban renewal plan aimed at improving accessibility and public service delivery.
Soludo said the visit was to identify infrastructure challenges, reclaim dormant public assets, and unlock the city’s economic potential.
