APC governorship aspirant Eric Opah has pledged to revive moribund industries and make Aba the hub of trade and manufacturing in Abia if elected governor in 2027.
Speaking to journalists at the APC Pre-Primaries Stakeholders Meeting on May 14, Opah said his administration would promote Aba’s products internationally and spread industrial development across all LGAs in the state.
“Promoting industry and commerce in Aba will create more jobs and attract more investments,” Opah said. “Through Aba, we will invest industrially in various LGAs. That will also boost Abia’s internally generated revenue.”
He stressed that economic opportunities should not be limited to Umuahia, Aba, or Arochukwu alone.
“You should not need to go to Umuahia, Aba, or Arochukwu to work. There should be industries and factories in different LGAs to make the state work better than it is now,” he said.
Addressing claims about securing the governorship ticket through backdoor means, Opah dismissed the allegations. He said he had never received any government contract in Abia since 1999 and would not rely on sentiment to win the ticket.
“I am contesting out of personal conviction. It has nothing to do with what you are talking about,” he said.
The entrepreneur also pledged to accept the outcome of the primaries and support whoever emerges as the APC candidate to ensure the party retains its momentum in Abia.
Mascot Uzor Kalu Outlines Vision, Backs Option A4 Primaries
Also speaking at the meeting, governorship aspirant Mascot Uzor Kalu described himself as an experienced politician capable of leading Abia to greater heights.
Reeling out his credentials, Kalu said he had served as Chief of Staff and worked in the private sector as a financial analyst and stockbroker.
He expressed support for the Option A4 mode of primaries, where supporters queue behind their preferred aspirant. He said he was confident of victory if the process was conducted freely and fairly.
Outlining his manifesto, Kalu promised to standardize government policies, improve workers’ welfare, rebuild institutions, and raise the standard of infrastructure in Abia.
While commending Governor Alex Otti for his developmental efforts, Kalu insisted that Abia could do better than it is doing now.
