Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State on Thursday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the ₦34 billion Rigasa/Tudun Wada Flood and Gully Erosion Control Project.
He also presented over ₦2 billion in compensation cheques to Project Affected Persons, PAPs.
“Development must not only deliver progress, but must also uphold justice, compassion, and respect for human dignity,” Sani said.
Spanning approximately 17 kilometres, the project is designed to provide a lasting solution to persistent flooding and gully erosion that have devastated Rigasa and Tudun Wada communities for decades.
Through a Resettlement Action Plan, the government said it would support more than 1,200 Project Affected Households to ensure no citizen bears an unjust burden.
The governor said the intervention, expected to be completed in 18 months, would reduce flood risks, stabilise erosion-prone areas, safeguard homes and public infrastructure, preserve livelihoods, and strengthen climate resilience.
He added that the project would directly and indirectly impact over two million people, in line with his administration’s vision for environmental sustainability and inclusive development.
Sani thanked affected communities for their cooperation and urged contractors to uphold professionalism, quality, and accountability.
“Together, we are building a safer, greener, more resilient, and more prosperous Kaduna State for generations to come,” he said.
