Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have interrogated Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the alleged unauthorised release of voter registration data.

Olayinka confirmed the invitation.
“I was invited on Tuesday. I honoured their invitation,” he said.

The questioning followed an INEC probe into the online publication of voter details belonging to actor Emeka Ike, a candidate in the recent Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, primaries for the AMAC/Bwari House of Representatives seat.

INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, said on Tuesday the Commission began an investigation after an audit trail traced unauthorised access to its Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, database to a user account. He said relevant personnel have been questioned.

The Commission said the Department of State Services, DSS, has also commenced an independent investigation.

Olayinka recently posted screenshots on X showing Ike’s application number, Voter Identification Number, VIN, registration centre, name, and date of application. The images were said to have been obtained from INEC’s administrative portal.

Ike told the press he would take legal action over the exposure of his personal data.

“Actions are ready; I’m ready to take him on. He has no right to exploit my privacy,” he said.
