The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State has concluded its primaries across the three senatorial districts, with Chief Jude Udeachara emerging as the candidate for Abia North with 39,740 votes.

‎Other candidates who emerged unopposed include: Chief Chinyere Onuoha for Abia South with 33,611 votes, while for Abia Central, Barr. Bob Ogu will fly the party’s flag after polling 18,901 votes.

‎Announcing the results on Wednesday at the PDP Secretariat, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Dr. Ikenna Onuoha, said the party tasked the committee to ensure the election was free, fair, and inclusive.

‎According to him, two options are available during party primaries: consensus or direct primaries. In Abia State, he said, the consensus mode was adopted, which ensured a rancour-free process.

‎He reaffirmed that the PDP is a peaceful political party that gives every member ample opportunity to exercise their franchise.

‎“These people came out to contest the election, and the people of Abia who are of PDP extraction have given them their mandate to represent them in the forthcoming 2027 senatorial elections,” Onuoha said.

‎“So, the leadership of the party in the state, led by Hon. Abraham Amah, has provided a conducive environment for this primary election. We commend the leadership of the party in the state for what they have done.”

‎Earlier, PDP Chairman in Abia State, Elder Abraham Amah, said the party had so far conducted successful primaries for House of Representatives and senatorial aspirants.

‎He said that in line with the party’s tradition, the national leadership had advised Abia PDP to harmonise. Based on that, most constituencies had undertaken harmonisation and presented one aspirant per zone.

‎Amah also announced that the House of Assembly primaries have been slated for Friday, May 22, 2026. He revealed that out of the 24 seats, the party had harmonised 22.

‎“I think it’s only two state constituencies where we are going to have more than one person. That way, we are able to make sure that we don’t create a lot of problems for the party, so that we can remain united,” he said.

‎Amah further announced that the governorship primary will hold on Sunday, May 24.

‎“Unfortunately, we are still hoping to undertake some harmonization between now and then,” he said.
