The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has announced its House of Representatives candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections following Sunday’s primaries in Umuahia.

‎Chairman of the electoral committee, Dr. Ikenna Onuoha while speaking to newsmen, said the exercise was conducted in line with the directive of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which mandated political parties to conclude primaries on or before the end of May 2026.

‎Onuoha described the process as free, fair, and credible, noting that there was no violence or altercation. He said the election conformed with the Electoral Act as amended and the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017, with direct primaries adopted and winners emerging through consensus across all federal constituencies.

‎“The election is free, fair, and credible because consensus was adopted in all the federal constituencies,” he said.

‎The winners announced include: Hon. Solomon Akpulonu for Obingwa/Ugwunagbo/Osisioma; Elder Abraham Amah for Arochukwu/Ohafia; Humphrey Chukwudi Benson for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency; and Ajuziogu Roland for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency. Onuoha said other winners would be announced in due course.

‎He commended the PDP leadership and the state chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, for creating an enabling environment for a rancour-free exercise. “This election is described as one of the freest and most credible primary elections in the history of Abia State,” Onuoha said.

‎Speaking after clinching the Arochukwu/Ohafia ticket, Elder Abraham Amah said there was room for improvement in the zone despite the contributions of past representatives.

‎He said he had been in politics for over 30 years, serving in various capacities under different governors of the state.

‎Amah said his aspiration was driven by the need to improve the country’s economy, youth and women development, infrastructure, and ease of doing business.

‎He argued that Nigeria’s strategic location at the center of Africa gave it an advantage, noting that the country borders West, East, North, and Central Africa, and sits close to Southern Africa.

‎“I have a vast knowledge of politics and have been strong in advocacy on community development, fairness, and ensuring that things are done rightly. I have contributed my quota,” Amah said.

‎He added that before contesting, he consulted with the party leadership and reviewed the provisions of the party’s constitution. “I want to be part of the Nigerian conversation, a conversation that will improve everything about this country,” he said.
