The Federal Ministry of Education and the National Youth Service Corps are set to deepen collaboration to resolve challenges affecting students and graduates, including name mismatches, incomplete records and verification delays.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting with the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, and his team in Abuja.
Dr. Alausa said the Ministry is working towards better integration between NYSC, the Nigerian Education Repository Database, NERD, and the Nigerian Education Data Initiative, NEDI, including API integration to make graduate verification faster and more seamless.
Posting on his verified X handle, he noted that the Ministry has fully digitised its Education Support Services, ESS, covering certificate verification and services for foreign applicants through http://essverify.education.gov.ng.
The Minister added that the Ministry is also working with NYSC, JAMB, NIMC and NBTE to address issues around name discrepancies and graduate mobilisation. Plans are also underway to develop a unique Learner Identification Number to connect learner records across all education systems.
“A genuine graduate should not be held back because of a name mismatch or verification issue. The goal is simple: protect genuine graduates, make verification easier and shut the door on certificate racketeering,” Dr. Alausa said.
He described the initiative as part of the One Government approach to delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for Education.
