Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has withdrawn from the 2027 Sokoto South Senatorial race.
The African Democratic Congress, ADC, has since endorsed former Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Faruk Yabo, as its consensus candidate for the seat.
Tambuwal, who represented Sokoto South in the Senate until 2023, was a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections but stepped down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
In a related development, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, Tambuwal’s deputy during his tenure as governor of Sokoto State, has emerged as the ADC’s consensus governorship candidate for Sokoto in 2027.
