The Delta State Government has commenced a N5 billion grassroots empowerment programme targeting 100,000 small-scale business owners and other beneficiaries across the 500 wards in the state.
Under the scheme, each beneficiary is expected to receive N50,000 to support their businesses and household needs.
The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr Olisa Ifeajika, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Asaba, the state capital.
According to Ifeajika, the initiative was designed to complement the administration’s massive investments in critical infrastructure with direct financial support to residents at the grassroots.
He explained that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has directed local government councillors to facilitate the distribution process, with each ward expected to reach at least 200 beneficiaries.
”The programme aims to support small businesses, strengthen household finances and stimulate economic activities at the grassroots,” Ifeajika said.
He added that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities for Deltans, in line with the people-centred objectives of the MORE Agenda.
Ifeajika noted that by injecting N5 billion directly into the grassroots economy, the government expects to boost local commerce, create wealth and reduce poverty across communities in the state.
He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds to grow their businesses and improve their living standards, assuring that the Oborevwori administration remains focused on delivering inclusive growth and sustainable development to all Deltans.
