MAKURDI — Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Thursday inaugurated the Tinubu/Alia 2027 Campaign Council at IBB Square, Makurdi, as he seeks another mandate to sustain progress, complete ongoing projects and create greater opportunities for the people.
The Council is led by its Director-General, Hon. Citizen Richard Asema.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Alia said his administration has a record to present, work to complete and a responsibility to do more, adding that another mandate will enable him to consolidate investments, expand economic opportunities and ensure more families benefit from the progress being made.
He listed the recruitment of 9,700 primary school teachers, improvement of public school infrastructure and restoration of regular payment of salaries and pensions as part of his achievements.
The Governor also said his administration increased the minimum wage for Benue State workers from N18,000 to N75,000, demonstrating commitment to workers’ welfare and the dignity of labour.
”We are constructing roads and connecting communities to markets, schools and healthcare. Our efforts to link all 23 local government areas through road networks is opening up Benue for commerce and investment,” Alia said.
He said his administration is transforming Makurdi from a glorified village into a metropolitan city, with better roads, improved infrastructure and urban renewal projects that reflect its status as the state capital.
On industrialisation, Alia said his commitment is taking shape through the establishment of a new brewery, juice factory, concentrate factory and nail factory, alongside efforts to revive Taraku Mills.
He said the investments will create jobs, support local businesses and add value to agricultural produce.
The Governor also listed the expansion of access to higher education through the establishment of the University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh, and the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fr. Adasu University in Adikpo.
”Our young people deserve the knowledge and practical skills to build productive lives and contribute to Benue’s development,” he said.
Alia said his administration is also investing in healthcare, advancing the Cancer Centre at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and strengthening agriculture to improve livelihoods and food production.
He attributed the achievements to the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the opportunities provided by his Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the partnership with the Federal Government has been instrumental in advancing development and strengthening security operations across Benue.
”Every family deserves to live, farm and travel safely. Together with our security agencies, we will continue working towards lasting peace in our communities,” he said.
The Governor charged members of the Campaign Council to enter every community, listen to the people and present the record of the administration with honesty and conviction.
”We must continue to earn their trust through service delivery,” he said.
He called for reconciliation and unity, urging party members to put grievances aside and unite behind President Tinubu and his administration for victory in 2027.
”Let us put grievances aside, embrace reconciliation and unite behind President Tinubu and our administration for victory in 2027,” Alia said.
