Hundreds of residents of Zurmi LGA in Zamfara State staged a protest on Tuesday over deteriorating security in the area.

‎The protesters condemned ongoing attacks by bandits, displacement of communities, and destruction of lives and property.

‎They urged federal and state authorities to act swiftly to address the crisis, according to a report by security analyst Bakatsine on X.

‎Zurmi has been a hotspot for bandit violence this year. In February 2026, gunmen attacked Kwari and Gidan Jaja villages, killing 15 residents and burning several houses. In April, bandits raided Karakara village, abducting 20 farmers and rustling cattle.

‎In May, Zamfara government confirmed that over 10,000 residents had been displaced across Zurmi and neighbouring LGAs due to repeated raids. Many displaced families are currently taking refuge in Zurmi town and Gusau.

‎Residents say the protests reflect growing frustration over the frequency of attacks and slow security response in the border LGA.

‎Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the protest at the time of filing this report.
