Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected terrorist scout during an ambush in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, security expert Zagazola Makama reported on X.
‎
‎Military sources told Makama the operation was carried out at about 10:15 p.m. on June 6 by troops of the 73 Battalion following intelligence reports of suspected terrorist movement around Malari village.
‎
‎According to the sources, troops deployed and laid an ambush after information indicated insurgents were massing in the area.
‎
‎During the operation, troops observed an individual suspected to be conducting reconnaissance approaching from Malari village. He was challenged and ordered to stop but allegedly continued advancing toward the troops’ position.
‎
‎The troops engaged and neutralised the suspect during the encounter.
‎
‎Military authorities said the operation is part of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts to prevent attacks on military positions and communities in the North-East.
‎
‎Troops, they added, remain on heightened alert and are sustaining surveillance and offensive operations to deny insurgents freedom of movement.
