Senator Ali Ndume on Sunday hailed the Nigerian military for securing the release of 360 women and children abducted from Ngoshe community in Borno State.

‎The former Senate Leader, in a statement issued in Abuja, said the victims regained their freedom on Saturday, three months after suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military base in Ngoshe on March 4.

‎The attack involved burning of operational vehicles, killing of several people, and abduction of scores of residents.

‎Ndume described the operation as “remarkable,” praising the troops’ professionalism and patriotism despite logistical challenges.

‎“We must applaud the professionalism and spectacular patriotism of men and officers of the Nigerian Army who continue to exhibit outstanding courage in the face of obvious logistic challenges,” he said.

‎He thanked the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the General Officer Commanding 7 Division, Maiduguri, and the Commander of the 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza for their roles in the rescue. The senator also credited Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum for his support.

‎Borno State Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, confirmed the release on Sunday. President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, also confirmed the development. Previous reports from April 10 indicated that BOSYA had served as an intermediary between the insurgents and victims’ families.

‎Ndume further commended the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency, Zubaida Umar, for providing relief materials to displaced residents.

‎He urged the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to support efforts to rebuild Ngoshe, saying residents were willing to return from IDP camps if the community became habitable.

‎The lawmaker called on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of schoolchildren abducted in Mussa, Askira-Uba LGA, and travellers kidnapped along the Biu-Buratai road.

‎He also condemned the killing of soldiers and repentant Boko Haram volunteers in Mandaragra village, Biu LGA.
