Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared a 16-hour curfew in 10 local government areas surrounding the Old Oyo National Park.

‎The curfew takes effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, and will run from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. daily for 48 hours in the first instance.

‎The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and made available to journalists through the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, on Tuesday evening.

‎According to the statement, the 10 LGAs are those surrounding the park, which has been a source of concern for residents. Security agencies believe the park is where students and teachers kidnapped last month in Oriire LGA are being held by bandits.

‎Recall that 39 students and seven teachers were abducted in some communities in Oriire Local Government Area last month.

‎The affected LGAs are: Oriire with headquarters at Ikoyi-Ile, Orelope, Igboho, Irepo, Kisi, Saki West, Saki, Saki East, Ago-Amodu, Atisbo, Tede/Ago-Are, Itesiwaju, Otu, Iseyin, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, Igbeti, and Atiba, Offa-Meta, Oyo.
