Bandits attacked Maikadauri village in Kontagora LGA of Niger State last night, kidnapping four women, including one in active labour, and a young girl.
The attackers also killed a sick patient, shot a local vigilante member, and assaulted an elderly man and his son during the raid, according to reports posted on X by security analyst Bakatsine.
Residents said the community was left traumatised as families await news of their loved ones and pray for the safe return of those taken captive.
Kontagora and surrounding LGAs have witnessed repeated bandit raids in 2025-2026.
In January 2026, gunmen killed 6 farmers and abducted 12 others in Mashegu LGA. In March, bandits attacked Kagara town, burning houses and taking 20 residents hostage.
Niger State has been a hotspot for kidnapping and cattle rustling, with communities often relying on vigilantes due to slow security response.
The abduction of a woman in labour highlights the brutality of recent attacks, which increasingly target vulnerable groups including women, children and the sick.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the Maikadauri incident at the time of filing this report.
