Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to leveraging technology to drive governance, economic growth, education, and security across the state.
The Governor stated this while receiving the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Computer Society, NCS, on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.
Governor Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the Society for choosing Plateau to host its international conference despite negative narratives about the state. He commended the delegation for relying on facts rather than misinformation on social media.
“I want to thank you for the confidence you have in us by agreeing to host this conference here. I appreciate those of you who stood firmly to discountenance negative information about Plateau State,” he said.
Highlighting his administration’s digital agenda, the Governor said government is bridging the technology gap through strategic investments and partnerships.
“We have reached an advanced stage in collaboration with development partners to set up the BPO here in Jos. We have conducted interviews and about 600 applicants are ready to take off,” he stated.
Governor Mutfwang added that his administration will continue to promote e-governance and e-commerce to strengthen public service delivery. He also disclosed that technology has become critical in combating insecurity, citing how recent tech deployment gave security agencies a tactical advantage during an attack in Riyom LGA.
On Artificial Intelligence, he urged Nigerian ICT professionals to proactively address emerging risks.
Earlier, NCS President, Prof. Aliyu Sirajo, commended the Governor for achievements in ICT and digital innovation. He said Plateau emerged as host through the most peaceful and seamless selection process.
“After concerns were raised over security reports, we sent an assessment team. Their report was: ‘We do not see what the media is portraying,’” he said.
Prof. Sirajo noted that the conference will support the Governor’s effort to boost the digital economy and position Plateau as an emerging ICT hub.
