The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, says the pursuit of gender equality must go beyond advocacy to deliberate steps that guarantee women their rightful place in national development.

‎This statement comes on the heels of this year’s International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, and a call to action for accelerating gender equality.

‎Posting on his verified X handle on Sunday, Kalu said the day celebrates women’s strength, resilience, and contributions to nation-building.

‎He called for commitment to advancing women’s rights and participation through legislative reforms and frameworks expanding women’s representation and amplifying their voices in decision-making.

‎Kalu noted that an inclusive democracy is stronger, better equipped to serve all interests. “Together, we will champion policies supporting women in attaining their highest potential,” he said.

‎”As we mark this year’s International Women’s Day, with the theme ‘Rights, Justice and Action’, pursuit of gender equality must go beyond advocacy to deliberate steps guaranteeing women their rightful place in national development.

‎Happy International Women’s Day to remarkable women shaping our world, Kalu wished.
