The Defence Headquarters(DHQ), has revealed that it is working with relevant Federal Government agencies to stop the use of drones by terrorists and other criminal groups to carry out attacks.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, who revealed this, also said the military is working with relevant government agencies to identify who supplies drones used by these criminals with a view to stop their deployment.
Gen. Onoja, stated this at a media briefing on updates of military operations conducted across the country in the last one month.
The spokesman was responding to questions from journalists over the use of drones by terrorists which has become incessant especially in the North-East part of the country, killing civilians and security personnel alike. He assured that the issue will soon become a thing of the past in a matter of days.
He noted that agencies tasked with the responsibility of preventing illegal use of drones have commenced work, adding that the agencies have capacity to prevent the use of drones.
Gen. Onoja, who also responded to allegations circulating on social media that soldiers at checkpoints in Bauchi State were being compelled to remit weekly sums to their commanders, said their claims remained allegations until proven.
He pointed out that the military as a transparent and responsible organization would carry out investigation to ascertain the authenticity of the report, adding that If the allegations are found to be true, necessary action will be taken.
