Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday received the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Mr. Michel Deelen, on a farewell visit as he concludes his diplomatic assignment in Nigeria.
The governor disclosed this on his verified X handle.
According to Sanwo-Olu, over the years, Lagos has built a strong and productive relationship with the Netherlands, thanking the outgoing envoy for his support and partnership.
“We discussed areas of shared interest, including the development of our waterways, the Omi Eko project and the ongoing regeneration and relocation efforts in Okobaba,” the governor said.
On his part, Mr. Deelen acknowledged the state government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors, Sanwo-Olu added.
“I thanked him for his service and contributions to strengthening the relationship between Lagos and the Netherlands and I wish him every success in his new posting,” the governor stated.
The Netherlands has been a key partner in Lagos infrastructure and urban development.
Dutch firms and agencies have collaborated with the state on the Omi Eko waterways transport project aimed at decongesting roads and expanding ferry services.
Netherlands-backed investments have also supported flood management, waste-to-energy projects, and agribusiness initiatives in Lagos, while Okobaba regeneration aligns with Dutch expertise in sustainable urban renewal and waterfront development.
