Plateau State has recorded 11 confirmed cholera cases, 5 deaths, and 53 suspected cases in Pushit, Mangu 1 and Mangu 2 communities of Mangu Local Government Area.

‎Commissioner for Health Dr. Nicholas Baamlong disclosed this in Jos, adding that the state ministry of health has intensified interventions to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread.

‎He said the state deployed additional Rapid Response Teams to affected wards, scaled up treatment centres and isolation capacity, and procured Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits, intravenous fluids and essential drugs.

‎The ministry has also activated an Incident Management System for a coordinated, multi-sectoral response in line with national and international emergency frameworks.

‎Baamlong described cholera as an acute diarrhoeal disease caused by Vibrio cholerae, and urged residents of Mangu and neighbouring communities to drink safe water, maintain hand hygiene, avoid open defecation, and ensure proper waste disposal.

‎He called for prompt reporting of suspected cases to the nearest healthcare facility, and called on development partners to support ongoing response efforts.
