President Bola Tinubu has called on Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, to align with Nigeria’s development priorities by promoting the national interest and rejecting foreign influences capable of undermining the country’s sovereignty.
The President, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, made the call at the Southern Civil Society Organisations Summit held in Lagos.
Speaking on the theme, _“Nigeria First and Sustainable Development,”_ Tinubu urged CSOs to complement government efforts in advancing sustainable development, good governance and human capital development.
He commended civil society groups for their patriotic interventions during national emergencies, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and flood disasters across the country.
“Your contributions during moments of national crisis reflect true patriotism and commitment to nation-building,” the President said.
President Tinubu identified food security and climate resilience as critical areas for collaboration. He charged CSOs to support farmers and fishing communities, promote climate-smart agriculture, and protect wetlands and mangrove ecosystems that are vulnerable to flooding.
According to him, stronger collaboration between government, civil society and local communities remains essential to achieving the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
