The Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Abia State, Elder Abraham Amah, has said the PDP will field candidates for all contestable positions in Abia come 2027.

Amah, who spoke while addressing journalists at the party secretariat in Umuahia, the Abia State capital on Saturday, said the PDP is not planning to enter into any coalition in 2027, emphasising that the party will field candidates with proven track records.

‎‎He revealed that a good number of party faithful have indicated interest to run for the offices of governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly, maintaining that the PDP is out to give them the platform they deserve.

‎“I can assure us that the PDP is ready for the 2027 general election. Several of our members have indicated interest. As I speak, about three persons have already told me in confidence about their intention to run for governorship,” Amah said.

‎“But one of them has come out today to address members of the State Working Committee, and he has also consulted with other levels of stakeholders, including local government party chairmen.”

Amah said what is now left is for the intending aspirants to formally meet the State Working Committee to make their intentions known. “About two of them met me in Abuja and two others who are U.S.-based also told me about their intention to run for the office of governor. We have a handful of them who have also indicated interest to run for the Senate seat of Abia South,” he added.

He also stated that many people have indicated interest to run for the House of Representatives, adding that in the next few days their names and other information associated with them will be made public.

‎Amah insisted that the PDP is ready. “It’s been a very, very difficult journey for the People’s Democratic Party in Nigeria because of the challenges of navigating through our crisis from the Federal High Courts, to the Court of Appeal, and even the Supreme Court. It’s been a very tortuous journey but by the grace of God we are over it,” he said.

‎He informed journalists that the sale of nomination forms for House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship, and presidential elections will begin on Tuesday.

‎“Beginning from Tuesday, by God’s special grace, we will start the sale of nomination forms for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship elections, and also the presidential election,” Amah announced.

‎He assured that the PDP is ready for the 2027 general elections, insisting that all lingering issues in the party have been resolved.

‎‎“I can assure you that reconciliation is always ongoing for a political party, and that is why both at the national and the state levels we have a standing committee saddled with that responsibility. In good faith, I can tell you that we have done so well and we are doing very, very well, and the process is on. If you go to our hall, there are members there who led the party,” he said.

‎On talks about PDP forming a coalition with the All Progressives Congress, Amah emphasised that the PDP is not nursing such ambition, maintaining that instead other parties would step down for them.

‎“Well, I can assure you again and again that we don’t have any such arrangement with the APC. The truth is that some elements who left our party for certain reasons, after leaving our party, all of a sudden realised that the key for the 2027 elections magic is still with the PDP. And in trying to portray their claim for maybe staging anything that would displace the present government, they try on their own to associate PDP in order to give meaning to what they are doing. The truth remains that PDP stands as a political party,” Amah stated.

‎“We have our structures. We have those who are entitled to speak for us. They cannot be in APC and make themselves busybodies who will be speaking for PDP. So the PDP has a spokesperson in Abia State, and he has his chairman, and then we have other leaders. Our position is very, very clear. We are going to contest this election.”

‎“Maybe parties and their candidates will step down for us. The PDP is going to contest all the elections. If any person is willing to step down for us, we will welcome that person, but the issue of stepping down for any person is not in our books,” he concluded.

‎Correspondent reports that after the meeting, Abia stakeholders passed a vote of confidence on FCT Minister Nyesom Wike the National leader of PDP, the National working Committee of the party led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammed, the BOT chairman, Sen Mao Ohuabunwa, as well as the Abia State working committee led by Elder Abraham Amah
