The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has directed public primary and secondary school teachers in Oyo State to withdraw their services indefinitely over the continued captivity of teachers and pupils abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.

‎In a circular signed by the state Secretary, Salami Olukayode, the union said the action commenced on Monday and will run until further notice.

‎The directive followed an order from the NUT national leadership, which expressed concern over the prolonged detention of the abducted teachers and pupils.

‎The union said the captivity had created fear among teachers, discouraged parents from sending their children to school, and heightened tension in affected communities.

‎According to the NUT, the strike is intended to draw attention to the plight of the abductees and compel authorities to intensify efforts toward their safe release.

‎“The union and teachers nationwide stand in solidarity with the victims and their families as lawful engagements with government for the safe return of the abductees continue,” the statement added.
