NADCEL 2026: COAS Seeks Stronger Rivers Partnership to Boost National Security

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, at the Government House, Port Harcourt.

‎Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to tackle security challenges and protect critical national assets.

‎The visit is part of activities marking the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADCEL 2026, currently being hosted in Rivers State.

‎Speaking during the visit, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu said he was in the state for the week-long celebration, which will culminate with the grand finale on *July 6*.

‎The Army Chief thanked the Rivers State Government and people for their support and hospitality, noting that the conducive environment created by the state contributed significantly to the successful organisation of the event.

‎He also commended the state government for its continued support to the Nigerian Army, stressing that sustained collaboration among the military, government, and citizens remains vital in addressing emerging security threats and safeguarding critical infrastructure.

‎“Closer cooperation between security agencies and state authorities will further enhance efforts to preserve peace, protect strategic assets, and promote national development,” Shaibu said.

‎In his remarks, Gov. Fubara thanked the COAS for choosing Rivers State to host NADCEL 2026.

‎He commended Lt.-Gen. Shaibu for the significant improvements in the state’s security situation since assuming office, noting that the improved security had boosted oil production and economic activities.

‎The governor also praised the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts in combating insurgency, pipeline vandalism, and crude oil theft, describing the military as a critical partner in ensuring national security and economic stability.

‎Fubara reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining support for the Nigerian Army in hosting NADCEL 2026 and in ongoing operations to protect critical national infrastructure and strengthen internal security across the state.
