Security expert Zagazola Makama has reported that insurgents suspected to be members of a group known as Lakurawa attacked security installations along the Mokwa–New Bussa Road in Niger State on June 21.
‎
‎In a post on X on Monday, Makama said police sources confirmed the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. when the armed group blocked the highway at Zugurma in Mashegu Local Government Area before launching an attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service checkpoint.
‎
‎During the attack, the insurgents reportedly overpowered personnel at the checkpoint and made away with an AK-47 rifle belonging to an immigration officer.
‎
‎The attackers were also said to have extended their operation to the Police Outpost in Zugurma Village.
‎
‎However, police authorities confirmed that all officers on duty at the outpost escaped unhurt during the incident.
‎
‎No cases of kidnapping or abduction were recorded during the attack, according to the police.
‎
‎Security sources said the situation had been brought under control, while efforts were ongoing to track and apprehend the attackers.
‎
‎The command assured residents of intensified patrols and continued security operations in the affected area.
