Residents Send SOS To Gov Otti As Ururuka Road Caves In At Ubaha Nsulu
Residents of Ubaha and adjoining communities in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State have raised a Save-Our-Soul alarm to Governor Alex Otti over the imminent collapse of the popular Ururuka Road.
The road, which connects Umuahia to Aba through Isiala Ngwa, is currently caving in at Ubaha, close to the Nsulu Games Village, following the heavy downpour witnessed in the state.
A visit to the spot shows a deep gully has cut off a large portion of the road, leaving only a narrow strip for motorists. The situation has made the road dangerous, especially at night, with fears that communities in the area may be completely cut off if it eventually collapses.
Residents told Newsbuka.com that virtually all portions of the road — from Amakama after Pacesetter FM, to Ubaha, down to Umunkpeyi — are in deplorable condition and begging for urgent attention.
They lamented that plying the road has become a nightmare, making the journey to Umuahia a difficult task.
The residents said the importance of the road cannot be overemphasised due to its closeness to Aba and its strategic value as an alternative route to the proposed Abia Airport sited in Nsulu.
”This road is strategic. With the Abia Airport coming up in Nsulu, this should serve as an alternative access road. If it collapses, many communities will be cut off and coming to Umuahia will become a big problem,” a resident said.
They called on the state government to urgently intervene, noting that while the present administration has argued that the immediate past administration of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu failed to fix the road, the people can no longer wait.
They appealed to Governor Otti, who has shown commitment to road infrastructure across the state, to extend his intervention to Ururuka Road before it collapses completely and cuts the people off.
