Eight members of the Scripture Union, SU, who were abducted on June 14 along the interstate boundary between Imo and Anambra states have regained their freedom.
The victims, all members of the SU Osogbo Regional Conference, were returning from a national conference when they were kidnapped.
Among those released are the Director-General, Uwem Cosmas, and a 300-Level Law student of the University of Ibadan, Abolarin Tomisin.
The President of the SU, University of Ibadan branch, Temidayo Adeboye, confirmed the release in a statement on Monday.
He said: “The development was officially communicated to the Students’ Union in the early hours of Monday, following confirmation from the relevant authorities and representatives of the concerned organisation.”
Adeboye added that the released persons are undergoing post-release procedures and will return to their destinations soon. “We have been assured that our student will safely return to the university community soon,” he stated.
A video confirming the release, which surfaced on Sunday, showed the victims with congregants praying and singing praises.
The spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, was yet to comment on the development as at press time.
