The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a masquerade, identified as “Asoleke”, in connection with the alleged murder of a 24-year-old man, Sefiu Kehinde, in the Labiran area of Ibadan.

‎The incident occurred on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m. According to the police, the masquerade and its followers allegedly attacked the victim with axes and cutlasses during a procession, inflicting severe injuries.

‎The case was reported at the Mapo Divisional Police Headquarters by Mrs. Aderemi, who said she received a distress call from her elder sister about the attack on her younger brother.
‎
‎The Divisional Police Officer, Mapo Division, led operatives to the scene. The victim was rushed to hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival by the medical doctor on duty.
‎
‎The police said the scene was processed and photographs taken. The family of the deceased later obtained the corpse for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
‎
‎The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for further investigation.
‎
‎While the Asoleke masquerade is in custody, four of his alleged followers are still at large. The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
