No fewer than 13 persons, including the Imam of Illela Dangware village, were killed when suspected bandits attacked the community in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday night.

‎A report shared on X by user @Bakatsine on Sunday said the attackers opened fire sporadically, leaving families torn apart and the community in grief.

‎“SAD NEWS: Last night, bandits attacked Illela Dangware village in Goronyo LGA of Sokoto State shooting sporadically, killing 13 people including the village mosque imam. Families have been torn apart and another community has been plunged into grief,” the post read.

‎The report also condemned what it described as “selective narratives” on insecurity, stating that Muslims, including clerics and families, remain major victims of the violence.

‎“Months ago, some people tried to convince the world that Nigeria’s insecurity was simply a genocide against Christians. But tragedies like this are a painful reminder that innocent Muslims including clerics and entire families are most of the victims of this brutal violence,” it added.

‎It concluded,“Every innocent life matters. Every victim deserves justice. We should confront Nigeria’s insecurity with honesty, not selective narratives that overlook the suffering of others.”

‎Authorities in Sokoto State are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as at the time of filing this report.
