Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has approved the immediate suspension of all mining activities across the state over security threats.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Gebon Kataps, said the decision followed credible security reports indicating threats capable of undermining the peace currently enjoyed by citizens and residents.
Kataps said the government will constitute a new task force to ensure security and safety for responsible mining operations after all security threats have been cleared.
All local government councils and traditional rulers have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the suspension order.
The SSG urged citizens to report any suspected violations immediately to the nearest security establishment, warning that the government will view any breach of the directive with serious consequences.
The Taraba State Government has concluded plans to meet with all artisanal miners next week to update them on security measures and vigilance requirements.
Kataps added that the government remains committed to protecting lives and property while ensuring mining activities resume only under a secure and regulated environment.
He urged citizens to cooperate fully with security agencies and report any suspicious activities.
