The Labour Party, LP, in Abia State says it is not losing sleep over whether the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, will contest for governor in 2027 or seek re-election to the House.

‎Reacting to a statement on Friday by the APC Publicity Secretary in Abia, Mr. Uche Aguoru, the LP said Governor Alex Otti is too focused on governance to be distracted by political speculations.

‎The LP through its Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, said Otti’s priority remains rebuilding critical infrastructure, repositioning the economy, restoring confidence in public institutions, and improving the lives of Abians.

‎“Governor Otti cannot spend valuable time discussing individuals who are yet to clearly define their own political direction,” the statement read.

‎The LP said it would ordinarily not dignify what it called a “needless and panic-driven” publication, but found it necessary to advise the Abia APC to stop using Governor Otti’s name to drive its political narratives and internal anxieties.

‎“It is surprising that the APC in Abia continues to drag the governor into every conversation as though their relevance depends on mentioning his name. The truth is that Governor Otti’s performance has become the standard for governance in Abia, and this reality appears to be giving the opposition sleepless nights,” the statement added.

‎The party said it would not engage in debates over endorsements or speculations manufactured to attract public attention, noting that Otti’s growing acceptance was rooted in visible performance, prudent leadership, and the restoration of hope.

‎Abia LP advised the APC to focus on rebuilding its party, articulating alternative policies, and addressing the concerns of its members instead of dragging the governor into its political insecurities.

‎“Abians are politically conscious and can clearly distinguish between propaganda and performance,” the statement concluded.
