The 9th National Council on Skills has approved the establishment of a Technical Working Group to implement resolutions from the National TVET Conference aimed at strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Nigeria.

‎The decision was taken on Wednesday at the Council meeting chaired by Vice President Sen. Kashim Shettima, GCON.

‎Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who facilitated the proceedings as First Vice Chairman of the Council, disclosed this in a statement.

‎According to him, the meeting reaffirmed government’s commitment to the One Government Approach through stronger collaboration among Ministries, Departments and Agencies to build a coordinated and industry-responsive skills ecosystem.

‎Dr. Alausa said the Council also advanced work on the National Skills Database, which he described as critical for planning, coordination and labour market intelligence.

‎He noted that with stronger alignment between the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, the Industrial Training Fund, ITF, and other stakeholders, the government is accelerating reforms to deliver outcomes for Nigerians.

‎The Minister stated that the initiatives align with the NESRI Six-Point Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which seeks to transform Nigeria into a knowledge-based economy powered by skilled and globally competitive citizens.

‎“The investment in skills is to lay the human capital foundation required to achieve the President’s vision of a $1 trillion economy,” he said.
