The Nasarawa State Police Command has warned politicians, supporters, and political groups against holding rallies, processions, or campaigns in violation of the 2026 Electoral Act.
‎
‎The warning follows a violent clash between supporters of rival office seekers in parts of the state, which led to destruction of property, vandalised billboards, and damage to vehicles belonging to members of the public.
‎
‎Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ranhan Nansel, said Section 98 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, stipulates that political campaigns shall commence not earlier than 150 days before election day and end 24 hours prior to election day.
‎
‎Commissioner of Police Shetima Jauro expressed concern over actions by political supporters threatening the peaceful atmosphere in Nasarawa State. He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and committed to providing a level playing field while protecting lives and property.
‎
‎The command advised all political parties, aspirants, support groups, and agents to strictly comply with provisions on commencement and conduct of campaigns, rallies, and meetings, or face the full weight of the law.
