President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians his administration will intensify efforts to relieve economic hardship and redouble the fight against insecurity, saying the Federal Government “shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation.”

‎Tinubu gave the assurance on Sunday at the National Inter-Denominational Church Service in Abuja, part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration. He was represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume.

‎He congratulated Nigerians on “27 uninterrupted years of democratic rule since 1999,” describing it as a testament to citizens’ resilience and the sacrifices of June 12 pro-democracy activists who “endured persecution, injuries and even death.”

‎Acknowledging widespread economic pain, the President said government was aware of the strain on households and would “double his efforts” to deliver sustainable democratic dividends.

‎On security, he called recent attacks and abductions “painful reminders that more work remains,” but stressed that security agencies are being equipped to protect lives and preserve Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

‎Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Tinubu urged Nigerians, especially youth, to reject violence and manipulation. “Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience,” he said.

‎He also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society and the media to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence before the polls.
