The Enugu State Government has described as false and unfounded a viral post warning of an imminent terrorist attack on the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the government described the post as the handiwork of criminal elements and their enablers seeking to spread panic and undermine efforts to protect lives and property in the state.
According to the statement, the purveyors of the alarm have a history of circulating similar false alerts about Holy Ghost, Obollo Afor, Opi, Gariki, Awgu, and other locations, often hiding behind “Anonymous” and recycling old attack videos as current incidents. Those responsible for past false alarms, the government said, were tracked down and prosecuted.
The government assured residents that Enugu’s security architecture remains robust and proactive, backed by modern infrastructure, advanced technology, and dedicated personnel under the Peter Mbah administration.
It urged the UNN community, residents of Nsukka, and citizens across the state to remain calm and continue their lawful activities without fear, adding that security agencies are working to apprehend those behind the latest false alarm.
