EFCC Recovers N125m For Land Fraud Victim In Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, has recovered and handed over the sum of N125,000,000 to a victim of alleged land fraud in Lagos.

‎The Acting Zonal Director, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, presented Sterling Bank drafts of the recovered funds to the victim, Akinsewa Akiode, on Thursday.
‎
‎According to the Commission, Akiode had petitioned the EFCC alleging that one Olufemi Omoola Fashehun defrauded him of N125,000,000 under the pretext of selling him a 550-square-metre parcel of land located at No. 10, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos State.
‎
‎The petitioner further alleged that the suspect concealed the existence of a pending court case over the property, which has been before the court since 2011.
‎
‎Investigation revealed that despite being served with court processes, including injunctions restraining him from construction on the property, the suspect failed to disclose the information before collecting the purchase money.
‎
‎Consequently, the petitioner lost both the land and developments under construction on it, prompting the petition to the Commission.
‎
‎Following the conclusion of investigations, the EFCC recovered the N125,000,000 from the suspect and made restitution to the petitioner.
‎
‎Speaking during the handover, Kaltungo reiterated the Commission’s commitment to investigating economic and financial crimes, recovering proceeds of crime, and ensuring restitution for victims of fraud.
