Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has condemned the killing of Benue State MACBAN Chairman, Ardo Risku, and his son after a peace meeting.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, Akume described the incident as “a major setback to ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts” in the state.
He expressed concern that the attack occurred as communities were recording improved security and peaceful coexistence through dialogue.
The SGF urged residents to remain calm and avoid reprisals, stressing that no individual or group should take the law into their hands.
He noted that lasting peace is critical to economic growth, agricultural development, and living conditions in Benue.
Akume extended condolences to the family of the deceased, MACBAN members, and others affected by the incident.
He also called on the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted.
