Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has challenged Nigerian youths to rise above poor governance and prepare to lead the country’s transformation.
Speaking at Madonna University, Okija Campus, during the “NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative” themed _“Beyond Now: Raising the Next Generation of Leaders”_, Obi said leadership remains the most critical factor in national success or failure.
Addressing students’ concerns over corruption, unemployment, and limited opportunities, he acknowledged growing frustration but urged them not to despair.
“Leadership is the greatest determinant of a nation’s progress,” Obi said. “A true leader must possess character, competence, capacity and compassion, and be willing to make sacrifices for the people.”
He argued that Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who will protect lives, invest in education, create jobs, and strengthen institutions for sustainable development.
As part of his support for education, he presented a ₦15 million cheque to Madonna University to support its academic programmes.
“We can build the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said, “but it begins with preparing today’s young people to become tomorrow’s leaders.”
