Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a coordinated mass abduction attempt in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians including an infant.

‎Security expert Bakatsine shared the update on X on Monday, saying the operation was carried out on 16 August 2026 following a distress call.

‎According to the report, terrorists led by suspected kingpin Mallam Shuaibu infiltrated the community in what preliminary intelligence described as a retaliatory attack. The group was reportedly reacting to the recent arrest of several collaborators intercepted while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, for the syndicate.

‎Seeking reprisal, the armed men laid an ambush within a millet farm along a local transit route and targeted passing vehicles, with the aim of abducting occupants.

‎“Upon receiving the distress call, Sector 2 troops deployed rapidly to the scene. The troops’ decisive engagement denied the terrorists the opportunity to execute their abduction plot, forcing the attackers to abandon their mission and flee into the nearby forest,” Bakatsine posted.

‎Troops secured the area and rescued nine victims. Two female civilians who sustained gunshot wounds during the initial ambush were evacuated and are currently receiving medical attention.

‎The report added that troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA are currently exploiting the general area, with clearance operations intensified to track fleeing terrorists and dismantle their logistical networks.

‎“Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains resolute in its commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats and restoring peace and security to the North West region,” the statement concluded.
