JOS — Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has urged Christians in the state to deepen unity, strengthen interdenominational fellowship, and work together to confront insecurity, poverty and other social challenges.
The Governor made the call on Sunday while addressing worshippers during a church service at ECWA Goodnews Church, Bukuru, in Jos South Local Government Area.
Mutfwang said his administration has deliberately maintained a tradition of worshipping with different Christian denominations across the state as part of efforts to foster unity and reinforce the Church’s role as a catalyst for peace and societal transformation.
“One of the assignments God has given us is to unite the Church of Jesus Christ. Wherever we have the opportunity to worship, we ask where we should go because we believe the Church must remain one,” he said.
“When the Church stands together, it becomes a stronger force for righteousness, peace and development,” the Governor added.
He reaffirmed Plateau’s reputation as the Home of Peace and Tourism, assuring residents that the state remains welcoming to all Nigerians regardless of ethnicity or religion.
“As long as you live on the Plateau, you are my brother and my sister. We welcome everyone from every part of Nigeria. We only ask that you respect our values, respect our culture and live peacefully with one another,” Mutfwang said.
The Governor noted that the spirit of inclusiveness is reflected in the Government House Chapel, where ministers from all denominations are engaged to unite the body of Christ.
Speaking on security, Mutfwang described insecurity as a deliberate strategy by criminals to impoverish communities and displace families. He called on citizens to see security as a shared responsibility.
“Security personnel are not magicians; they act on credible intelligence. When you see something, say something. The information you provide may save lives, prevent attacks and protect entire communities,” he said.
He disclosed that several planned attacks were recently foiled through timely intelligence from patriotic citizens, and assured that government, in collaboration with security agencies, remains committed to dismantling criminal networks.
Mutfwang also commended Christian and Muslim leaders for promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence. On the economy, he identified poverty as a major threat to peace and said his administration is investing in job creation and empowerment programmes for vulnerable groups.
