DAMATURU — The Yobe State Executive Council has approved projects and services worth N73,323,775,914.05 to improve service delivery and living conditions across the state.
The approval was made on Thursday during the council meeting presided over by Governor Mai Mala Buni at the Council Chamber, Government House, Damaturu.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Abdullahi Bego, said the memorandums considered by the council directly spoke to the needs of the people and the commitment of the Buni administration to socio-economic development.
Of the total sum, N28,531,209,000.00 was approved for the procurement of agricultural tools and implements for the 2026 Mega Agric Empowerment Programme of Governor Buni. The state government had executed similar empowerment programmes in 2024 and 2025.
The council also ratified N4,939,268,813.00 for the construction of Buni-Yadi Modern Motor Park and Grains Market. It further approved N5,687,865,141.49 for external facilities and augmentation of perimeter fence at the Damaturu Modern Motor Park, which is nearing completion.
In Gujba Local Government, N3,945,496,686.96 was approved for the construction of a new shopping mall and mini-market in Buni-Gari town.
Other approvals include N652,627,000.00 for the acquisition of Fanzar Mixed Farms Ltd; N1,176,589,306.56 for the construction of an office complex and headquarters for the Ministry of Housing; and N2,248,060,178.60 for the purchase of 208 housing units from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The council also approved N616,609,850.39 for upgrading, remodelling, landscaping, and installation of safety barriers for four major roundabouts in Damaturu metropolis, and N726,087,969.55 for upgrades in the ongoing construction of the Damaturu Mega Shopping Mall.
Empowerment and Roads
In the area of empowerment, the council approved N460,828,450.00 for the procurement of beans for distribution to female small business owners. A total of 1,780 bags of 50kg beans will be distributed alongside cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils and kitchen wares already procured and stored by the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation.
The ministry also got approval for N364,475,000.00 for the procurement of 1,000 units of Yamaha GX 390 grinding machines for empowerment support across the state.
For road infrastructure, the council ratified N23,974,658,517.50 for two major projects. These include N21,904,063,500.00 for the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 45km Kalallawa-Kaliyari road in Damaturu and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas, and N2,070,595,017.50 for the construction of the 7km Damagum-Gubana road. The Damagum-Gubana project will complete 17km of road to Gubana town from Damagum.
PPP Approval
The council also approved a Public-Private Partnership for the Yobe Liaison Office in Kaduna for its conversion into a modern hotel under a Build, Operate and Transfer, BOT, arrangement. The property will revert to the Yobe State Government after 10 years, while the state’s liaison services will be retained within the property.
Governor Buni, in his opening remarks, commended members of the executive council for their work and urged them to ensure effective implementation in line with the administration’s development agenda.
