The Plateau State Government has announced the soft grand opening of the historic Hill Station Hotel, Jos, in a ceremony held on 1st October, 2026, to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication and Overseeing Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Hospitality, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, mni, who represented Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang at the event, joined dignitaries, investors and other government officials for the test-opening of the newly remodeled landmark.
Built in 1938 during the colonial era, the Hill Station Hotel served as one of Nigeria’s first and most famous hotels, famously hosting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II alongside global dignitaries and explorers. The iconic facility has now been fully revitalized under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement between the Plateau State Government and Hillside Hospitality.
Delivering the Governor’s message, Commissioner Ramnap disclosed that the 1st October event was a soft opening to test operations and service delivery, while the official commissioning and major grand opening will be conducted by Governor Caleb Mutfwang himself in the coming weeks.
She reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring critical state-owned assets and positioning Plateau as a leading destination for tourism, sports and investment.
According to her, this milestone forms part of the “Time is Now” administration’s broader strategy to revive the State’s economy by promoting tourism, attracting local and foreign direct investments, creating employment opportunities, and leveraging public-private partnerships for sustainable development.
”This is more than the reopening of a hotel; it is the reopening of Plateau to the world. For a State that has been a flashpoint, we are deliberately rewriting our narrative from conflict to commerce, from history to hospitality. The return of the Hill Station Hotel tells investors that Plateau is peaceful, our government honors agreements, and your investment is safe here,” Ramnap stated.
She emphasized that the revitalized facility will further strengthen Plateau State’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s foremost destinations for hospitality, leisure and business investment, and called on potential investors at home and in the diaspora to take advantage of Plateau’s clement weather, rich cultural heritage and investor-friendly policies.
Other dignitaries at the event included Mr. Kolapo Joseph, Chairman of Hillside Hospitality; Mr. Danlami Jelka, MD, Plateau Investment and Property Development Company; The Project Director, Damilola; Mrs. Grace Dongkum Shwarta, Commissioner for Finance; Prof. Noel Wannang, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Education, Pankshin; HRH Nde Jika Golit, the Ngolong Ngas, and HRH Yakubu Chaimang, the Ataa Aten of Ganawuri, among others.
Ramnap assured that the Ministry will continue to project the positive stories of Plateau State to attract goodwill and showcase its tourism potentials to the world.
