The Abia State Government has fixed Saturday, June 27, 2026, for the monthly sanitation exercise between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, said movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted during the period, except for essential duty workers who must present valid identification or authorization on demand.
Ogbonna directed all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies, and business premises to close on Friday, June 26, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. for their pre-sanitation clean-up.
The Commissioner urged Executive Chairmen of Local Government Councils, traditional rulers, town union leaders, religious leaders, youth and women organisations to mobilise residents and ensure full participation.
Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, are advised to assemble at their designated take-off points for deployment.
The statement urged residents to remain indoors, clean their surroundings and wear nose masks during the exercise. The government warned that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted under the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
