…calls for Urgent Rescue of Abductees
The Northern Senators Forum has condemned last Friday’s terrorist attack in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, during which gunmen abducted hundreds of worshippers at the Kpenya Mosque after Jumat prayers.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the attack was described as barbaric and unacceptable.
According to the statement, the security breach also occurred in Gidan Zana and Kpenya villages, leaving communities traumatized.
The Forum described the abduction of worshippers as a direct assault on the right to freedom of worship and on the peace of Northern Nigeria.
The Senators called on the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, DSS, to intensify rescue operations to ensure the safe release of all abductees.
The Forum further urged the Federal Government to provide urgent relief materials to affected families and to strengthen security architecture in Borgu and other border communities to prevent a recurrence.
The Northern Senators Forum commiserated with the victims, their families, the Government and people of Niger State, and prayed for the safe return of those still in captivity.
